The spring ensures that the armature returns to its default position when the coil is de-energized. There are typically two main types of contacts: Normally Open (NO), which are open when the relay is inactive and close when the coil is energized, and Normally Closed (NC), which are closed when the relay is inactive and open when the coil is energized.
