An Insulation Monitoring Relay is a protective device that continuously monitors the insulation resistance between the conductors of an electrical installation and the ground. It is particularly important in systems that are not grounded (such as IT systems) or those where neutral grounding is faulty. The IMR functions by measuring the insulation resistance and ensuring it remains above a predefined threshold. If the insulation resistance drops below the acceptable limit, the IMR activates an alarm or automatically disconnects the affected circuit, alerting operators to the fault.
